Application Guide for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship 2023
To meet the growing international demand for Chinese language teacher, facilitate Chinese language education around the world, and support the professional development of Chinese language teachers, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) has established the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship) for eligible Chinese language teachers outside of China. Confucius Institutes, independent Confucius Classrooms, selected HSK test centers, foreign educational institutions, Chinese language teacher training programs/Chinese departments at foreign universities, professionalassociationsforChineselanguage teaching, Chineseembassies(consulates) abroad (hereinafter collectively referred to as Recommending Institutions) may recommend outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers to further their studiesininternational Chinese language education and related programs at Chinese universities(hereinafter referred to as Host Institutions).
ELIGIBILITY
a) Be a non-Chinesecitizens;
b) Be friendly to China, have no criminal record, abide by the laws and regulations of China and the rules and regulations of the Host Institution;
c) Be in good physical and mental conditions, be in good academic and behavioral standing;
d) Be interested in Chinese language education and related work;
e) Be aged between16 and 35 on September 1, 2023, The maximum age limit for in-service Chinese teachers may be extended to 45, but those who apply for a scholarship for a Bachelor’s degree shall be younger than 25 under most circumstances.
COVERAGEAND CRITERIA
The Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fees, accommodation fees, living allowance (four-week study students excluded) and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.
A. Tuition is under the overall planning. Tuition fee does not cover the textbook expenses and tourist tickets.
B. Accommodation fee is under the overall planning. (double rooms).
C. Living allowance is granted by host institutions on a monthly basis. The monthly allowance for one-academic-year study students and one-semester students is 2,500 CNY per person.For MTCSOL student, the monthly allowance is 3,000 CNY per person.
D. Comprehensive medical insurance is purchased by the host institutions in accordance with relevant regulations of studying in China stipulated by the Ministry of Education of China.
QUALIFICATIONS
A. Scholarship for Master’s Degree in International Chinese Language Education
The programme commences in September 2023 and provides scholarship for a maximum of two academic years. Applicants shall hold a Bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).
Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or a proof to the same effect.
B. Scholarship for One-Academic-YearStudy
The programme commences in September 2023, and provides scholarship for amaximum of eleven months. International students who have benefited from similar scholarships are noteligible.
For the area of TCSOL, applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.
For the areas of Chinese Language and Literature, applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).
FortheareaofChineseLanguageStudy, applicantsshallhaveaminimumscoreof210on the HSK test (Level 3). Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.
C. Scholarship for One-SemesterStudy
The programme commences either in September 2023 or March 2024, and provides scholarship of a maximum of five months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.
For the areas of TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature,applicantsshallhaveaminimumscoreof180ontheHSKtest(Level3), and an HSKK test score isrequired.
D. Scholarship for Four-WeekStudy
The programme commences either in July or December, 2023, and provides a four-week scholarship. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Online registration will be available from March 1, 2023 on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website (http://www.chinese.cn). Please log on to search for recommending institutions and host institutions; upload application materials online;andtracktheapplicationprogress,commentsandresults.Scholarshipholdersneed to confirm with the host institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, printoutthescholarshipcertificateonline,andregisterathostinstitutionsonthedesignated date as per the letter ofadmission.
The Application Deadlines (Beijing Time) :
a) For programmes commencing in July, applicants must complete their applications before15 April, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before 25April.
b) ForprogrammescommencinginSeptember,applicantsmustcompletetheirapplications before 15 May 15, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before 25 May25.
c) ForprogrammescommencinginDecember,applicantsmustcompletetheirapplications before 15 September, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before 25September.
d) For programmes commencing in March 2024, applicants must complete their applications before 15 November, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before 25 November.
CLECwillentrustanexpertpaneltoreviewtheapplications.Decisionswillbemadebased on HSK and HSKK scores and levels, and in consideration of country distribution as well as other factors. The results will be published about three months before schoolstarts.
POLICIES REGARDING IN-SERVICE CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHERS AND CHINESE BRIDGE WINNERS
a) In-Service Chinese languageteachers:
In-Service Chinese language teachers may be exempted from HSK/HSKK certificates if they can provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the employer.
b) Chinese Bridge Winners:
Applicants who have received the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate during Chinese Bridge competitions may submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to the host institutions directly at the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website.

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHERS SCHOLARSHIP
For all applicants:
a)A scanned copy of passport photo page;
b)A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity);
c) A reference letter by the head of the recommending institutions.
For degree scholarship programme applicants:
d) A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript;
e)Applicants of the Scholarship for Master’s Degree in International Chinese Language Education students are required to provide 2 reference letters from professors or associate professors. Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or a proof to the same effect.
Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employer.
Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.
DISCLAIMER
A. University will not accept the application if the documents are not complete or up to admission standard.
B. The qualification will be cancelled if the application documents are not true or filled in by others.
C. The scholarship recipient should inform the university 15 days before if not register on time. Scholarship will not be reserved if scholarship recipient cannot register before the registration deadline.
D. Studentswhofailtopassthepre-enrollmentmedicalexamination,withdrawfromschool midway, or fail to report to school or suspend their studies without permission will be disqualified forscholarship.
