The president of Russia National Hydrometeorological University, Valerie Mikheiv, led a delegation to visit the Ocean University of China in the afternoon of June 19st. President Yu Zhigang met with these visitors at Laoshan campus. The two sides had in-depth discussions on science and educational cooperation in terms of marine sciences, atmospheric sciences and polar research, and then signed cooperation agreements.
President Yu Zhigang extended warm welcome to the visitors. He pointed out that Ocean University of China (OUC) is a comprehensive university with particular strengths in oceanography and fisheries science and we celebrate to a policy of open education, actively establishing cooperative relations with foreign universities. This year is the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. In this year, the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between the two countries is also entering into a new era. President Valerie Mikheiv's visit was just at the right time. For the two universities are both featured with distinctive characteristics and share highly compatible strengths, making it possible for cooperation in marine sciences, atmospheric sciences, polar research and joint training of students. It is strongly expected that the two universities will effectively promote exchanges on the basis of the platform for higher education cooperation jointly built by China and Russia.

President mikheiv expressed appreciation for the warm reception. In his speech, he introduced the condition of the Russia National Hydrometeorological University, as well as of its academic achievements, experts and teachers in terms of its strengths such as hydrology, meteorology and oceanography. He said that their university attached great importance to the cooperation with Ocean University of China, and hoped that the two universities could carry out practical cooperation in joint Arctic scientific research and vessel sharing. Next, vice president Maria introduced the school's history and its international cooperation condition in detail.

Director Guan Changlong of the College of Oceanic and Atmosphere Sciences introduced the personnel training and scientific research of the college. Director Qin Shanghai of the School of International Education introduced the situation of the international students in the training, learning and living environment, campus service especially about Russian students' school situation. Professor Guo Peiqing from the School of International Affairs and Public Administration introduced the cooperation between the research team of Arctic international politics and international law of the school and Russian Universities in polar research. Li Jinsong, President of Beijing Tang Chinese Education Technology Limited Company, accompanying the president of the Russian National Hydrometeorology University, introduced the cooperation on Internet plus international education.

After the talks, President Yu Zhigang and President Mikheiv jointly signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two universities, and visited the Institute for Advanced Ocean Study and the Laboratory of the College of Oceanic and Atmosphere Sciences, accompanied by chief accountant Wang Jianmin.
Relevant principals and experts from College of Oceanic and Atmosphere Sciences, School of International Affairs and Public Administration, College of Liberal Arts, Journalism and Communication, the Academic Affairs Office, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and School of International Education attended the meeting.
